Open Letter to:
Dr. Donald Wells, President
Chair and members of the Board of Governors
University of Regina
Please accept the return of the President's Medal which was awarded to me by the University of Regina in 1982. It was one of my most prized possessions.
I am returning it in protest against the awarding of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Qiao Shi by the University of Regina.
Qiao Shi is the former head of the Chinese secret police. He is indelibly associated with merciless repression in China and in Tibet, at the highest level of authority.
It is inappropriate for any university to award an honor to such a man.
Sincerely,
Dan Walker
