Radical Party leader Marco Pannella announced Wednesday his candidacy for the presidency of the Campania Region, running on the ticket of the Bonino List, a radical movement led by former European Commissioner Emma Bonino, that won almost nine percet of the vote in last year's European elections. Mr Pannella said his platform aimed to "promote economic revival in a free market key" in the region, which ha s a huge undergrounf economy, and "to give greater attention to environmental themes", including those linked to the Mt Vesuvius volcano. In the past, Mr. Pannella has served as city commissioner in Naples and as a member of the European Parliament, elected with many votes from Campania. The Corriere del Mezzogiorno reckoned he could count on 15 to 20 percet of the vote in the April 16 elections.
