Dear Mr. Ghio,
...My son, Robet van Dalfsen, worked as a diving instructor on the Maldives. On his return from holiday in Europe he was arrested on the 4th of july 1996 having in his posession the amount of 1,5 grammes of marihuana, which he apparently took with him following a prescription from his g.p. because of hi high blood pressure, to be added to tea.
Our Min. of Foreign Affairs was informed by his employer.
After a few days in jail in Male ha was transfered to Gaamaadhoo jail island.
He has been there now for about half a year, without any communication, except one time when he spoke to a Mrs Didi who is possbly goign to act as his lawyer, and furthermore ha has been visited twice by the dutch Ambassador from Colombo.
It seems hi health i deteriorating because of lack of vitamins and, being the only european in this part of the jail, becoming very depressed.
Theonly contact we have is via the ministery of foreign affairs in The Hague, who also declare that it is very difficult to get communication with the authorities in Male.
