Thank you for your letter about drugs policy dated 12th August 1997 and for your extremly useful enclosures.

Enclosed is a copy of an item written for the Sun earlier this week. Although they had asked me to write it,' they decided not to run it. I hope you find it interesting and I think you will approve.

After years of receiving abusive mail whenever I have raised the drugs issue, I can see a gradual change in thinking. Only one abusive letter arrived today along with several supportive messages. more and more respected and unexpected, thinking people are openly agreeing that only a fresh, approach is the best way forward.
