Lhasa, July 28, '94: The Qinghai-Tibetan plateau, which is known for its icy mountains is becoming warmer under the impact of the global "greenhouse effect". "The Qinghai-Tibetan plateau is most sensitive to the change of global climate", said academician Sun Honglie, chief scientist of the State Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau Research Project. The Chinese scientist expected the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau to become warmer by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius by the middle of the next century if the amount of carbondioxide in the atmosphere doubles. "The amount of rainfall will increase by 20% over the same time", he added. (EuroTibet News N·1)
