Tibet's Corps Commander described the mass rally of PAP in a main street of Lhasa on 17th August as a "new starting point". The rally consist of "the rifle, submachine gun, handgun, motorcycle, automobile and truck formations" as well as those "guarding the corps colours and insignia", acording to a Tibet TV broadcast published by the BBC Monitoring Service. The deputy secretary of the Tibet Party named Tsultrim (Zi Cheng), described PAP as a "toughened, combat worthy, and highly disciplined force that the party, government and people of all nationalities in Tibet can trust". Hu Yongzhu, political commissar of the Tibet Military District, described Tibet corps of the PAP as playing "an important role on the forefront of fighting splittism and stabilising the situation in Tibet" and the corps Commander Tan Huashen promised to "build up the corps in all fields, (and) make sure that all assignments, particularly the handling of contingencies, are accomplished, to contribute more to Tibet's stability and economi
