Four monks believed to be from Phenpo, a rural area 45 km north of Lhasa, were arrested at about 11 am on 3rd August after shouting pro-independence slogans in the Barkor. On June 17th or 18th, a unit of the People's Armed Police raided the main monastery in Phenpo county, Ganden Choekor, and surrounded the nearby nunnery of Bumpa Shar after the demonstrations on 13th June by four nuns from Bumpa Shar.
