London, September 13. The Daily Telegraph writes: "The globe-trotting Dalai Lama, the indefatigable pilgrim in the cause of Tibet's freedom, said in London yesterday (12 Sept.) that he sometimes thinks his country's position under Chinese rule is "hopeless - really terrible". But when he looks at the broader picture, the collapse of much of the communist world and changes within China itself, he is "full of optimism." I believe that China has the ability to wipe out the Tibetan nation, as it did with Manchuria. But in modern times neither the world nor the Chinese people would tolerate such barbaric action. The Tibetan people will always resist, so China must find a way to solve the problem. "Tibet's freedom is not an issue of one person, the Dalai Lama, but an issue for the whole nation," he said.
