Beijing, September 15. According to Beijing UPI reports: China's Communist Party proclaimed on Thursday the launching of a three year "colourful patriotic education" drive in Tibet to quash youthful visions of independence, a return of the Dalai Lama or a divided China. With 660,000 youngsters living in the Tibet Autonomous Region, the project is directed at middle and primary school students, starting with the daily raising of China's flag and the singing of the national anthem, the People's Daily said in a front page article. Western observers said they feared the project would be accompanied by force. "China has a bad record. When they say education, they often mean the use of violence. The education campaign indicates even youngsters with no direct experience of an independent Tibet are intensely nationalistic." said Robbie Barnett, director of the London based Tibet Information Network. Raidi said, "Without the Party, there would be no new Tibet. To ensure the socialist cause, we must strengthen the pat
riotic education of the present generation of youngsters." (EuroTibet News N·2)
