Lhasa, September 27. According Xinhua news agency, "The Tibetan people have enjoyed full freedom in religious belief over the past ten year according to an official of the Tibetan regional government. Zhou Dunyou, an official from the Tibetan Regional Nationalities Affairs Commission, said that such freedom is a major part of China's law on regional autonomy for minority nationalities. The law states that the Chinese citizens have the right to believe or not to believe in religion. Zhou, who has worked in Tibet for three decades, said that articles of the law concerning the freedom in religious belief have been implemented in spirit and to the letter throughout Tibet over the past ten years. 'We have taken all possible measures to respect and protect such freedom,' he said, adding that the system of freedom in religious belief has been backed by Tibetans and people of various ethnic groups all over Tibet.
