London, October 7. China's nuclear test today would further undermine the shaky progress on a nuclear test ban treaty and attempts to build a more effective non-proliferation regime, Greenpeace says. China tested a 40-150 kiloton device at 0325 GMT today, Friday October 7, at its test site in the Lop Nor desert. It was China's 41st known test, and follows a previous test in June this year. China is the only nuclear weapons states which is not observing a moratorium on nuclear tests. Greenpeace called on all countries to renew their efforts to achieve a nuclear test ban, and for China to join the other nuclear weapons states in observing the testing moratorium which has now been in place since 1992.
