Tibetans call for open access to the forth world women's conference.

Dharamsala, October 17. An international delegation of Tibetan women living in exile and their supporters today expressed their outrage at the lack of United Nations concern on the issue of access to the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. Tibetans in exile are concerned that they will be denied visas to attend the Beijing Conference. This issue was not addressed in the ECE NGO Forum draft document. The Tibetan delegation has responded to this critical omission by drafting a statement, addressing access for all to the Conference, which has received the support of over one hundred NGOs. The delegation is lobbying for Mrs. Phala to be able to address this issue of access to the ECE High Level Regional Preparatory meeting, which takes place October 17 - 21. "Tibetan women living under Chinese occupation face persecution and violence for freely expressing their views. We in exile therefore have the responsibility to speak the truth about the horrendous conditions for Tibetan women in Tibet. The

Chinese Government must stop the violence and coercive family planning policies against Tibetan women", stated Namgyal Phala, President of the Tibetan Women's Organization in Switzerland. (EuroTibet News N·4)
