Canberra, November 7. According to the Reuter, "A visit to Australia by Chinese parliament chairman Qiao Shi brought Tibetan protests into the Australian parliament on Monday and drew opposition questioning over Canberra's policy on human rights in China. Protesters shouting slogans stopped parliamentary question time, which Qiao was watching, until his Australian counterpart, Senate President Michael Beehan, had them removed. But the resumption of question time, a daily opportunity for senators to quiz ministers, led Foreign Affairs Minister Gareth Evans to publicly criticise China's policy in Tibet. 'We are concerned about the repression of religious freedom and cultural identity and of freedom of expression in Tibet', Evans said. 'I'm wholly in sympathy with the desire of the Dalai Lama (Tibet's spiritual leader) and his followers to establish some resolution of this issue that is much more satisfactory than what has been the case hitherto', Evans said.
