Seattle, November 12. China's Vice Premier Li Lanqing, capping a week of deal making across the United States, yesterday was greeted with cries of "Free Tibet!" outside Seattle's Westin Hotel, where he was speaking. Carrying signs that read, "China out of Tibet" and "Tibetans for Tibet", about 30 people protested Li's appearance at last night's dinner meeting sponsored by the Washington-China Business Relations Council and the U.S.-China Business Council. Among the deals Li struck during his U.S. trade mission was a $1.6 billion contract with McDonnell Douglas Corp. to manufacture 20 commercial aircraft for China. The planes will be built in Long Beach, Calif. Kunzang Yuthok, executive director of the Tibetan Rights Campaign, which led the protest, said her group opposes U.S. trade relations with China because of China's human-rights record and its occupation of Tibet.
