AUSTRALIAN SENATE CALLS FOR CHINA TO RELEASE GROUP OF BUDDHIST NUNS.

Canberra, November 13. According Australian Associated Press, "The Senate today called for China to immediately release a group of Buddhist nuns detained within the Chinese prison system in Tibet. The call was contained in a motion from Liberal Senator Margaret Reid, passed by the Senate today. The motion also notes the young nuns and other Tibetan political prisoners are subjected to routine torture, are used as forced labour and have limited access to medical treatment. It says while it was alleged 12 of group of nuns were arrested for taking part in a pro-independence rally on June 14 last year there were no witnesses to a rally that day and no evidence that it ever happened. The motion also calls on the leaders of the Peoples Republic of China to comply with both the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights and the Convention Against Torture.
