Berlin, November 25. American songstress Mariah Carey and Canadian rocker Bryan Adams won two of the top prizes at the MTV Europe's first European Music Awards. With British singer Tom Jones as host, the show was broadcast live Thursday from a huge tent in the center of Berlin. As a backdrop, a clear tarp revealed the historic Brandenburg Gate, bathed in a spectrum of colored lights MTV's special "Free Your Mind" prize went to Amnesty International, the London-based human rights group. Bono, lead singer of the Irish mega-group U2 accepted the prize on Amnesty's behalf. "Everybody wants to change the world, but no one knows where to start", he said. "Amnesty International is a good place to start. "Remember Bosnia, remember East Timor, remember Rwanda, remember Chinese occupied Tibet and remember five years ago, what was going on behind these Brandenburg gates". MTV Europe reaches 61 million homes in 37 countries. That surpasses the 57 million homes reached by its American parent, MTV. (EuroTibet News N·6)
