U.N. RAPPORTEUR ON RELIGIONS WINDS UP TRIP TO TIBET.

Beijing, November 27. According to Reuter news agency, "The first U.N. investigator on religious intolerance to visit China ended a two-day trip to Tibet Sunday. Abdelfattah Amor of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights arrived in China last week at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Diplomats said he was the first U.N. rapporteur to come to China to look at the treatment of religion in the 45-year-old communist state. He visited the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, Friday following several days of meetings in Beijing. U.N. officials have been unavailable to comment on Amor's visit, which has been kept carefully low-profile. No details were available of Amor's meetings in Tibet, an area long troubled by religious unrest among its Buddhist monks and lamas, followers of their god-king, the Dalai Lama, and by discontent agains Chinese rule. Officials in Lhasa were unavailable to comment". (EuroTibet News N·6)
