Peace March
From New Delhi to Lhasa, 10 March 1995
Tibetan exiles are organizing a Peace March from Delhi, the capital of India, to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, to bring the suffering inflicted on the Tibetan people by the brutal Chinese oppression to the attention of the world, and to call for solidarity from international public opinion. Tibetans and their supporters are organizing demonstrations and manifestations of solidarity all over the world.
Reasons
The Peace March aims to make people aware of the abuses carried out by the Chinese Communist authorities in Tibet, above all the large-scale transfer of people from China to Tibet, the negation of the civil rights of the Tibetan people, the widespread destruction of the Tibetan ecosystem, and the militarization of Tibet.
Objectives
1) The immediate cessation of the resettlement of Chinese people in Tibet.
2) The convocation of a Sino-Tibetan conference, under the aegis of the United Nations, to discuss the future of Tibet.
3) The unconditional release of all political prisoners in Tibet.
4) An end to the devastation and the indiscriminate exploitation of the natural resources and the ecosystem of Tibet.
5) A commitment to send a UN delegation to Tibet to investigate the situation.
6) The preservation and respect of the Tibetan religion, culture and language.
