On March 6th to 11th is going to be held an important initiative for democracy in Tibet, the Asian country oppressed by Chinese authoritarian invasion.

During those days a very large Tibetan tent will be opened in Rome, in the famous Piazza Navona, a very large tent under and around which Radical Party and Italia-Tibet Society will organize debates, exibitions, bideos...

On March 10th, starting from Piazza Navona itself, a nonviolent march will leave for the seat of the Chinese Embassy in Rome. The march is scheduled to leave at 1:30pm, in order to reach the Embassy around 3:00pm.

The date of March 10th is significant, because it dates on March 10th 1959 the last attempt by Tibetan people to rebel against Chinese oppression. A vain attempt, to which it has been following a very strong reaction by Chinese government.

A few days later, on March 23rd, Lhasa and the whole country were put under a strict military control.

Since then, Tibetan resistence has been a vivid example of nonviolent, gandhian resistence, together with political actions organized by Tibetan in exile.

The Dalai Lama has been the symbol - and more than a symbol - of such a nonviolent resistence. It is not per chanche that he has been having several occasion of contact, cooperation, friendship with that Transnational Transparty which is Radical Party. Let's remember his visit to RP headquarters in Rome, last year, or other occasions, or even when, in 1990, the Dalai Lama visiting Prague wanted to meet RP's members.

The engagement of RP in favour of the nonviolent resistence of Tibetan People and of the efforts of the Dalai Lama has been involving the whole Radical Party for several years, in several countries. The days in which, in March, RP and Italia-Tibet Society will hold the scheduled initiatives in Rome should become an occasion of a great mobilization by everybody and each of us, Radicals, wherever we live and operate.

THE FAST.

A fast (or a hunger strike: let's call it as we want) is going to be held during the days of mobilization. As it is possible to read in this Conference, there are already a few friends who have announced their will to take part to the fast. It will go on in this way:

the collective - or mass... - fast will start on March 5th at midnight, and will finish on March 10th at midnight. It is important to spread the news that such a nonviolent initiative is on, in order to collect adhesions to it. It is important to communicate, USING THIS CONFERENCE TIBET, all the adhesions we will be collecting day per day.

The fast is a 5 days long fast. Anyhow, it is possible to adhere to it even for a shorter time, as two days, or even one day. Let me say, anyhow, that participants should be in fast for one day just in the case in which health reasons advice it to the nonviolent activist.

Each of us can be not just the partecipant to the fast, but the promoter of it among other citizens, in each country.

THE HUNGER STRIKE:

Marco Pannella revealead, a few days later, that the Dalai Lama, during a private meeting with him, expressed his agreement about the proposal to organize an world-wide hunger strike for Tibet, for 1996. It has been announced in the New York Times double page advertisment. The great nonviolent Satyagraha, at a world level, for democracy in Tibet and in China.

Already during those days of mobilization, in March, it is important to start collecting disponibility to take part, next year, to the world Satyagraha. In this Conference it is possible to find the text of an Appeal about it, useful in order to colect adhesions, disponibilities to take part to the 1996 Satyagraha.

DEMONSTRATIONS ON MARCH 10TH

Wherever it will be possible, we should schedule for March 10th demonstrations in front of Chinese Embassies. As we remember it will not be the first time we demonstrate in front of Chinese embassies... It is important to organize demonstrations there, in any town, calling for adhesions by others.

CONFERENCE TIBET IN AGORA.

Let's use, while organizing our mobilization, this Conference rather than others. Even for communicating new adhesions tho the fast. Even if it will be advisable to communicate them also to M.Sisani trough a message in mail.

The next issue of Transnational will be useful for the mobilization, given that it will contain news and documents on it.
