Bruxelles, January 31, 1995. In response to a question from Mr James Moorhouse (EPP, UK), the Commission informed members yesterday afternoon that the proposed integrated rural development project for the Pa-Nam area of Tibet, worth 7.6 Mecus over 5 years, will only formally commence after the financing agreement has been signed by the Commission and the Chinese authorities. Despite the decision of the Commission on 11 November 1994 and the subsequent unanimous approval of the member states on the substance of the project, this signing has been delayed, due to representations from MEPs and others. The Commission is currently reflecting on the matter.
