Washington, February 5, 1995. According to UPI, "The Tibet Communist Party charged supporters of the Dalai Lama with thwarting China's drive to lift the isolated mountainous region out of poverty on Sunday, saying their secessionist activities threatened to plunge Tibetans into an 'abyss of suffering and misery'. 'Abetted by hostile Western forces, the Dalai Lama faction has not stopped its separatist moves for a moment', said a report in the official Tibet Daily from public security forces stationed in Tibet".
