On March 10th, 1995, Tibetans and their supporters will gather throughout the world to commemorate the 36th anniversary of those who have fought and died in their struggle for Tibet's freedom and independence.
The United States Tibet Committee, a national human rights organization which has sponsored the observances in New York since 1977, will again endorse this year's gathering in New York City.
The suppression of human rights and freedom in Tibet continues to be viewed with concern by freedom-loving people everywhere. The Tibetan people are deprived of their fundamental human rights, freedom of speech and assembly and religious pratices.
It is fitting that we recognize the Empire State's Tibetan community and their plea for justice on this 36th anniversary of Tibetan National Day.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE E. PATAKI, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, DO HEREBY RECOGNIZE MARCH 10th, 1995, AS TIBETAN DAY.
