Dharamsala, February 22, 1995. The Tibetans-in-exile have decided to postpone their proposed march from Delhi to Lhasa in Tibet on March 10. The 500-odd volunteers, who had been preparing for the march for the past six months, will now undertake a 'padyatra' from here to New Delhi on the scheduled day. The eight Tibetan organisations, which had planned the march into Tibet under the aegis of the U-Thong Association to focus the attention of the international community on the Tibet issue deferred their action programme on the advice of the Dalai Lama, who had been spearheading the Tibetan freedom struggle in exile for the past more than three decades. Perturbed over the move of the Tibetan youth, the Dalai Lama convened a meeting of the organisers and the volunteers two days ago to dissuade them from undertaking the march. He said he fully appreciated the concern and determination shown by them for the liberation of their homeland, but the time was not ripe for such a drastic action.
