London, February 28, 1995. According to Tibet Information Network, "Tibetan nuns staged another brief demonstration in Lhasa on Saturday as tension increases in the lead up to the anniversary on 10th March of a failed Tibetan uprising in 1959. It was the twelfth reported protest in the region so far this year, seven of them calling for Tibetan independence. Five of the twelve incidents are confirmed. There was only one reported incident in the same period last year. During the protest on Saturday 25th February two or three women shouted pro-independence slogans in the Barkor, the pilgrimage route that circles Lhasa's main temple. The protest lasted only a few minutes and the nuns are assumed to have been arrested, according to unofficial sources."
