Beijing, March 4, 1995. According to Xinhua news agency, "The Chinese government will gradually expand the enrolment of Tibetan classes and schools opened in the interior areas of the country starting from 1995, an official of the State Educational Committee said here today. To train more skilled personnel of the Tibetan nationality, the Chinese government decided to open Tibetan classes for primary school graduates of Tibet in 1984. Since 1985 middle schools in 17 provinces and municipalities have enrolled 13,000 Tibetan primary school graduates, 70 per cent of whom are children of farmers and herdsmen."
