The Second World Parliamentarians Convention on Tibet began today
in Vilnius, the capital city Lithuania. Parliamentarians from over 13 countries are taking part in the three days convention - May 26- 28.
The theme of the Convention is "TIBET: SAVING A PEOPLE FROM
ANNIHILATION".
Topics for discussion are as follows:
1. Review of the follow - up actions of the New Delhi
Resolution adopted by the first WPCT;
2. Population transfer and its impacts;
3. Development and its impact on environment;
4. The situation and problems of Tibetan women;
5. Right of self - determination.
The convention is being organised by Lithuanian Parliamentary
Tibet Support Group. Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, the former
President of Lithuania is the Honorary Chairman of the Organising
Committee of the convention.
Prof. Landsbergis who became the first President of Lithuania
invited His Holiness the Dalai Lama in September 1991 few months
after the Baltic State won independence from former Soviet Union.
