The Chinese Prime Minister has cancelled a forthcoming official visit to Poland towards end of June. It has been learned that the Chinese Embassy in Warsaw has handed a letter to the Polish Government stating that "the atmosphere for Prime Minister's visit is not conducive due to pressure from the so called human Rights
groups."
It is believe that the Helsinki Foundation has been singled out for creating the unfavourable atmosphere when the Chinese Embassy handed over the letter to the Polish Government.
In 1994, a series of articles appeared in various Polish newspapers after it was learned that China persuaded Polish to vote in its favour at the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva in 1994 on a debate on Tibet.
The Helsinki Foundation and Tibet supports groups documented how China bought Polish vote at the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva which finally forced the Polish Government to publicly state that their vote would be along with the European Union.
