Beijing (AFP). - A leading Chinese dissident, Liu Gang, lost an appeal against a 10-day prison sentence imposed after he failed to report to police following his recent release from jail, his brother said Sunday.
The judical affairs department of the municipal police authority in Mr. Liu's home town of Liaoyuan in northeastern Jilin Province turned down the dissident's appeal saturday, his brother, Liu Yong, said.
The pro-democracy activist had been given five days from July 4 to appeal the sentence, wich followed his failure to present himself weekly to the police to "report thoughts" - a form of confession where an individual reports on his ideological progress and problem.
