Fear of imminent execution/Ill-treatment

PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Lodroe Gyatso, aged 33, Tibetan prisoner

According to a letter to German parliamentarians from the Chinese Ambassador in Germany, information that Lodroe Gyatso may have been facing trial and imminent execution was "unfounded and wrong". However, Lodroe Gyatso has been sentenced to an additional six years' in prison, plus three years' deprivation of political rights for "instigating unrest to overthrow the government and splitting the mother country". According to the Chinese Ambassador, Lodroe Gyatso is imprisoned in Tibet and is in good health.

FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send

telegrams/telexes/faxes/airmail letters

- requesting that the Chinese authorities make public a full account of the events leading to the charge brought against Lodroe Gyatso of "instigating unrest to overthrow the government and splitting the mother country" which has resulted in an additional six-year prison sentence.
