OSLO, July 11, 1995 (NTC) -- The Norwegian Tibet Committee Womens'section appreciates the action taken by Mr. Hallgrim Berg, MP of Norwegian Parliament.

Mr. Hallgrim Berg is also the Vice-Chariman in the European Council's Committee for gender equality, and one of the six delegates of the European Parliament to the Beijing Conference in September.

Mr. Berg has come with two challenging proposals to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg; first, to boycott the Beijing Conference in September. Second proposal is that he wants to give his seat in the delegation to a Tibetan exile woman in order to ensure more balanced views concerning the Tibet issues during the official conference.

The Council of Europe will have meeting in the middle of July, and this issue will be the main agenda in their meeting.

We have been informed by Mr. Berg that he will be attending the meeting in Strasbourg on the tenth of July. He also sent us the copy of his proposal letter (dated: 4th July.) to the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Concil of Europe, Strasbourg.

The Norwegian Press has been very interested in this issue, and we are following up the issue too.
