Thank you Chaksam-pa!

by Tenzin W. Dhongthog

From: WTN, 24 July, 1995

On behalf of the Nyenchen Thanglha, Seattle Tibetan dance troupe. I like to thank Chaksam-pa for their wonderful and high quality performance which inspired us all. Lead by Techung and Sonam Tashi "danny" la, who are two of the three founding members of Chaksampa, with their five guest artists from Dharamsala, Bylakuppee (South India) and France. All of whom are graduates from TIPA (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts).

Colorful costumes with fluid movements of their hands and bodies seemed like butterflies dancing in air softly and elegantly. No one can deny the beauty of their Tibetan costumes which caught every ones attention. The voices of the only two females were outstanding and moving to many of the audiences, especially to the older Tibetans.

Indeed, it was a special treat to be so close and to be able to watch a rare and live performance. It definitely made our hearts filled with pride, and happiness. I think that in the period of two hrs of performance no one in the audience could say that there is not a Tibetan culture that exists separate from the Chinese culture.

The performers spirit, energy and dedication in preserving an artistic wealth of a fragile culture was obviously appreciated by the audiences as they gave warm and loud cheers of standing ovation at the end of the performances. Indeed, they deserve it! In future, I recommend Tibetan communities through out the State to try to invite Chaksam-pa. It's worth it! "Thank you Chaksam-pa again!"

On behalf of the Nyenchen Thanglha and the Seattle Tibetan community, we dedicated Chaksam-pa's performance to His Holiness the Dalai Lama - for his long life.
