Tibetan Leader to be the Feature Speaker at a Conference which Will Look at the Post Cold War World

His Holiness the Dalai Lama will attend a historic conference in Trinidad to be held from 14 to 18 September in Port of Spain.

The five-day conference,"Harmony in Diversity," will attract prominent thinkers from different religions and nationalities. "The aim of the Conference is to analyze the nature of the threats to world peace and provide solutions to these," said Reverend Ray Brathwaite, the coordinator of the conference. "The presence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama will underscore this message," he said.

His Holiness' Trinidad visit is especially since it comes on the heels of his visit to the United States, where His Holiness will meet with political and business leaders, said Rinchen Dharlo, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the Americas.

The Trinidad conference is being held to discuss the underlying causes of the new conflicts that are erupting throughout the world. "The purpose of the conference is to create the recognition that different nationalities, ethnicities, religious creeds and political philosophies should be allowed to co-exist, while recognizing and accepting differences. Unfortunately, the prospect of world peace signalled by the end of the Cold War has been shattered by the emergence of new conflicts," said Reverend Ray Brathwaite.

His Holiness' Trinidad visit will be preceded by his 10-day visit to the United States. His Holiness will visit Atlanta, Houston, Boston and Washington, DC. In Boston, His Holiness will give talks at Harvard University, Emory and Texas Southern University.
