On the morning of 3rd September, some members of the central delegation sent to participate in the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Tibet Autonomous Region held a discussion meeting with patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles.
Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai and Wang Zhaoguo, deputy heads of the Central Delegation, Li Dek Su, deputy head of the Central United Front Work Department, and (?Ye Xiaowen), director of the Bureau of Religious Affairs of the State Council, attended the meeting. Wang Zhaoguo made an important speech on behalf of the Central Delegation. Regional leaders Gyaicain Norbu, Basang and Danzim also attended the meeting. Basang, deputy secretary of the regional party committee, chaired and meeting and made a speech.
In his speech, Wang Zhaoguo said that in 1965, the Tibet Autonomous Region was established and a new era was opened in which the people were the masters. This was a common choice made by people of all nationalities of Tibet, including patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles. Tibet was poor and backward in the past. Following construction over the past 30 years, the economy in Tibet today is developing, the market is brisk, society is stable, nationalities are united, the frontier is well-guarded, and people's living standards have markedly improved. In a short span of 30 years Tibet has made tremendous achievements in economic and social development. No period in the history of Tibet had achievements that can be compared with the present ones. Wang Zhaoguo said the great achievements made over the 30 years since the establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region are the fruits of victory won under the leadership of the CCP and with the common arduous work of people of all nat
ionalities around the whole region. Patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles have also made important contributions to such achievements. The people of Tibet and people of all nationalities throughout the whole country will not forget this and the party and the country will not forget this. On behalf of the central delegation, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks and lofty esteem to you, and through you to all personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles who have made contributions to stability, development and progress in Tibet.
Wang Zhaoguo said the Third Forum on Tibet's Work held by the central authorities provided a magnificent blueprint for Tibet's future development. The central authorities asked people of all nationalities in Tibet to make further efforts, to make new achievements, to take bigger strides in reform and opening up to the outside world, to speed up economic development and to safeguard social stability on the basis of existing achievements. These are the common tasks of people of all nationalities of Tibet and are also the common aspiration of patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles in Tibet.
He said patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles have rich experience and knowledge of the traditional culture of minority nationalities, and some of them also have special skills. In the great cause of safeguarding the motherland's unity, opposing a split, developing the socialist market economy and promoting social progress, we hope all of us will give play to our strong points using various ways suited to our strengths and make a new and greater contribution to Tibet's reform, development and stability.
Wang Zhaoguo said Tibet is currently stable and all nationalities are united. A good situation, development momentum and stability have been further formed since the Third Forum on Tibet's Work. However, we must also recognize that the Dalai clique and a small number of domestic and foreign splittists have never stopped their acts of sabotage to split the motherland. The nature of the struggle against the Dalai clique is not a matter of believing in religion or not, or a matter of exercising autonomy or not, but a struggle between splittism and anti-splittism. This is an important issue, which has a bearing on the motherland's unity and on Tibet's future and prospects . Not long ago, the Dalai violated religious rites and historical practices and illegally determined from abroad the reincarnated child of the Panchen. This was a continuation of the splittist activities of the Dalai over a long period. Patriotic personalities of minorities and religious circles should have a clear understanding of the natu
re of the issue, politically keep in line with the party Central Committee, the State Council, the regional party committee and the regional government, carry forward the glorious tradition of patriotism, assist the party and government to do a good job in work for the broad masses of monks and religious believers.
In conclusion, Wang Zhaoguo said: we believe Tibet's patriotic personalities of minority nationalities and religious circles will certainly carry forward the glorious tradition of patriotism, resolutely safeguard the motherland's unity, maintain social stability and make greater contributions to the great cause of building a united, prosperous and civilized new Tibet.
In her speech, Deputy Secretary Basang put forward her expectations on the united front work, work for minority nationalities and the region and the broad masses of patriotic personalities.
Jipu Pingcuo Cedeng, vice-chairman of the region, Lhalu Cewang Doje, vice-chairman of the regional Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Lhama (?Cering), director of the Democratic Management Committee of the Zhaxi Lhunbo Lamasery, (?Cukang Tudeng Tecu), vice-chairman of the CPPCC of Nagqu, and other patriotic personalities also spoke at the meeting.
