BEIJING, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- China wrapped up large-scale military exercises using hundreds of camouflaged tanks, armored cars, artillery launchers and warplanes, a state-run newspaper said Saturday. The 21st division of the People's Liberation Army and air force units held the exercises at the foot of Helan mountain in western China's Gansu province, the Liberation Daily said.
The report did not say how many soldiers or aircraft were involved nor the duration of exercises.
Junior field officers were trained to mobilize and command tanks, troop carriers and attack planes to improve war planning and strategy, communications, supply transport and wartime political propaganda, the newspaper said.
The exercises followed large-scale troop movements and guided missile tests in July and August near Taiwan.
