LETTER TO BILL CLINTONHereby we bring to you the text of a second letter of appeal that has been sent by Mr.Namkha Tenzin, MP, general secretary of the National Democratic Party of Tibet and Mr.T.T.Karma Chophel, MP, president of the NDP of Tibet to the President of the United States of America in order to increase the pressure on the U.N. and gain the support of the member nations, concerned organizations and individuals the world over, due to the decision of six Tibetans, including a woman, to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Tibet's independence from Communist China.
October 13, 1995
His Excellency Bill Clinton,
The President,
United States of America,
The White House, Washington, D.C.
Your Excellency,
Further to our humble submission dated September 25, 1995, we regret to say that there was no response whatsoever from the Secretary General of the United Nations. We are therefore ending the 25 days old vigil of relay hunger strike.
However, in order to demonstrate the firmness of our resolve to have the U.N. accept the five point charter of demands, we are starting from October 14, 1995 HUNGER STRIKE UNTIL DEATH.
For complete information on the matter, we enclose herewith copies of our second petition to the Secretary General, Statement by the volunteers undertaking the fast unto death and our handout to the general public. Although we are directing our demands to the U.N. it is significant that we are conducting the movement on American soil - the land of opportunity and freedom. It would therefore be fitting that the U.S. Government headed by your excellency as the most important member of the U.N. take the lead in supporting our justified demands. We exhort you to immediately direct your Permanent Representative at the U.N. to take up our issue and raise the same in the on-going General Assembly.
Throughout history, America has always stood for the ideals and values which the citizens of this great country have held dear and are enshrined in your noble constitution - Freedom, Equality, Justice and Democracy. These are the aspirations and demands of the six million Tibetan people too. We hope that you will keep up the great tradition by holding true to them.
Yours faithfully,
Namkha Tenzin, M.P. T.T. Karma Chophel, M.P.
