Letters: The Government Is Pushing People to Betray the Country; Why Does the Government Charge WEI Jingsheng and Let CHEN Xitong Go Free? (3 Items)

published by: China News Digest (CND), Tuesday, November 28, 1995

1) From: Fei Jia 11/23/95

Dear Editors

As a Chinese, I feel deeply ashamed about what the Chinese Government has done to Mr. WEI Jingsheng. As the whole world just condemned the Nigerian Government for killing 9 human rights activists, the similar story is happening in my own country. Once this news is well known by every, I do not know how I can face my colleges' questioning. We all love our own Motherland. We do not want to say anything or do anything harmful to her. But look what this Government is doing, it is just pushing everyone to betray the country. Don't the Government realise why there are so many overseas scholars remained overseas and yet more are trying to get out? It is the freedom. We no longer have to say (or even hear) what we do not want to say. Plus we can say things that the Government is not willing to hear. China, such a large country with so many hard-working and wisdom people, and yet so important in the world, when can this kind of stupid thing be stopped from happening? It is hurting us!!!

I was shocked by the report. I feel deeply sad for my country and my people. Mr Wei has done nothing to harm the nation and her people. He just expressed his different opinion from the CCP fifteen years ago. Why they still cannot let him free. I abslutely cannot understand them over what they have been doing to Mr Wei Jingsheng, Mr Chen ZhiMing, Mr Wang Dan etc. I guess the form charge could directly related to Mr Deng XiaPing's health situation. Mr Wei directly challenged Mr Deng's policy. Mr Deng might want Mr Wei to leave China alone after he dies. Mr Deng might not think that post-Deng CCP could handle Mr Wei's case.

Subject: Wei Jingsheng's case

Dear CND readers:

Please compare Wei Jingsheng's case with:

1. Comrade Chen Xitong's case. The former mayor of Beijing is neither arrested nor charged after grabbing millions dollars of people's money, because he is a COMRADE. He is still enjoying Chinese version of human right because he was brutal enough to Mr. Wei and students in Beijing.

2. The guy who shot former U.S. president Ronald Reagan and the guy who intruded Canadian prime minister's residence with weapon. Did he or will he get severe penalty? Were they denied to meet their family?

3. The Repulicans. While attempting to overthrow the Clinton administration, are they all arrested?
