Three Chinese Christian activists were sentenced recently to up to 2-1/2 years of re-education through labour by the Beijing municipal re-education through labour committee, Reuters reported on Monday. Defendants XU Yonghai, GAO Feng and LIU Fenggang all have sought to practise their faith outside state-sanctioned churches. Chinese government does not allow people to have religious gatherings, except at the registered churches under the Three-Self Patriotic United Front, a government-controlled national Christian organization.
