6 DAYS AWAY FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE FASTING DIALOGUE
FOR THE RELEASE OF THE PANCHEN LAMA AND WEI JINGSHENG:
357 PARTICIPANTS.
This issue of "Freedom for Tibet - Democracy for China Fax" is the last one before October 2nd. When we are going to close this issue, the number of participants at the fasting dialogue has reached 357, from 20 different countries. According to the situation in the last days, this total is supposed to go up. So far, these 357 participants who are going to fast, could also start the "Satyagraha 1998" campaign for the freedom in Tibet. October 2nd is a special day, because it is the anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Ghandi, the father of the non-violent India liberation policy. However, we shoud know that if we really want to organize, for the 1998 an "international movement" for the straggle of freedom in Tibet and for the democracy in China, other difficult moments await for us.
In "Second Page" we published a press release on the "October 2nd initiative" faxed to the media. This release, evidently, can be integrated, in the coming days, with any declaration of participants at the fasting dialogue and with any interviews in order to make better the conference on September 30th.
A few more words, we wish to thank all the participants at this non-violent and dialogue initiative for the freedom in Tibet and for the democracy in China to ask and to obtain, from all the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, not just simple promises but concrete actions.
Tashi delek.

Brussels, New York, Rome, Sept 24th 1996. With the support of numerous Tibet Support Groups and other political, cultural, and religious organizations, the Transnational Radical Party has promoted, within the limits of the preparatory campaign for "Satyagraha 1998" (international campaign for the liberation of Tibet) a fasting dialogue of three days dedicated to the release of the Panchem Lama, second highest religious authority of Tibetan Buddhism, and of the Chinese political dissident Wei Jingsheng.
From noon on September 29th to noon of October 2nd (anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Ghandi), hundreds of people will fast for the opening of a non-violent dialogue so that their respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs will do all that is possible for the release of the Panchem Lama and of Wei. Gedhun Choekyi Nyima is a boy of seven years who was recognized this past May by the Dalai Lama as the eleventh reincarnation of the Panchem Lama. An international campaign for his nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 is currently underway.
Over 350 people have registered as participants of the fasting dialogue. On October 2nd they will request the ministers of twenty nation in which they live the following two demands: that the respective ambassadors in Peking be allowed to meet with Wei Jingsheng where he is imprisoned in the prison of Tangshan, among other things, to observe the condition of his health, and that a message be sent to the ambassador of the people's Republic of China requesting the return of Gedhun Choekyi Nyma to his Tashi Lumpo monastery in Tibet.
