Wang Wanxing

Wang Wanxing, 46, was transferred from Beijing's Chaoyang Detention Centre on 30 June 1992 and forcibly admitted to the Ankang Psychiatric Hospital, an institution for the criminally insane run by the Beijing PSB. Police doctors diagnosed him as suffering from "political paranoia". Wang Wanxing, a veteran of the Democracy Wall movement who was jailed twice before in 1966 and 1976, was apprehended in Tiananmen Square on 3 June 1992 after unfurling a banner demanding redress for his previous periods of detention as a political prisoner and condemning Chinese leaders for the June 4 massacre. Told that Wang would not be sentenced and would be released early if she signed the document admitting Wang Wanxing to the mental institution, his wife was tricked into signing. International attention, including an interview with Wang Wangxing which was secretly filmed and broadcast on British television, has not improved Wang Wangxing's plight. He continues to be forced to take heavy medication every day. (Sources: Human
