An Ning, a former graduate student in Beijing University's archaeology department, was sentenced, probably in November 1995, to a five-year prison term. He was detained more than three years earlier, in September 1992, on suspicion of involvement in an underground democracy organization. In September 1993, he was formally indicted on charges of counterrevolution. Other than that An Ning has already lost five teeth, no specific information about his health is available.
