PETITION

This petition seeks to stir the conscience of mankind and its leaders. Violation of human rights remains a festering sore on the face of the globe. Ubiquitous violations collectively show up the hollowness of modern man's pretensions to civilised conduct. The so-called march of civilisation has not diminished man's innate rapacity, which manifests itself in rampant human right violations.

Almost every hour of each day men, women and children suffer violation of their human rights in some part of the globe. Even in developped countries human rights violation still occur in less obvious forms. In the less fortunate parts of the world, violation of human rights is both brazen and blatant, and is a matter of deep and immediate concern to the world community.

China has been systematically violating human rights in Tibet in a crazed attempt to obliterate the Buddhist religious ethos, language and cultural identity of Tibetans.

Tibet is the spiritual center of the world. The Chinese invasion and destruction of this sacred land is the greatest crime in the millennium. They know not what they do.

As the moral and political leader of the world, the USA has a responsability to protect the delicate Tibetan culture and religion from the human rights violations of China.

For nearly four decades His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been carrying on, from his headquarters in Dharamsala (India), a nonviolent struggle to secure human rights for Tibetans and ensure their survival and preservation as an ethnically/culturally identifiable entity. The cause of the Tibetans, deserves unstinting support from the world community, for it is essentially a question of basic human values and, transcends mundane politics.

We, through this petition, appeal to the leaders of China, USA, and all other countries, to hammer out, in consultation with HH the Dalai Lama a just solution for the future of Tibet which would preserve the world's last Shanghri La in its pristine purity. We further appeal to world leaders to prevent inhuman trampling of human rights in all the other part of this planet.

Freedom is the greatest gift given by 'Existence' to man. Let us nurture and nourish this fragile plant of freedom, so that it attains full flowering in the millennium. Until then, man's claim to civilization is premature.
