TIBET/INT'L TIBET INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT/BULLETTIN

I hope all of you are enjoying the summer. I have a few Tibet related Activities to share with you. Before I do this, however, I would like those of you who live in the Midwest of the USA to e-mail me and let me know your State residence. I want to comply a database of people in the Midwest so that when we have local activities I can inform you and not folks around the world.

1. On Aug 6 (6:30-8pm Cost: $7.00) & Aug 7 (10:00am to 3:00pm Cost $12.00), Dr. Yangdron Kalzang will offer a Workshop on Tibetan Medicine at Wellness Healthfood (Fishers Station, Allisonville Road & 116th Street) in Fishers, Indiana. Friday night will be an introduction to Tibetan medicine, while Saturday will focus on pulse reading, understanding constitutions, and health through the balance of diet and behavior. Dr. Kalzang will also be available for consultations. Dr. Kalzang was born and educated in Lhasa, Tibet. She graduated from the Traditional Tibetan Medical University in Lhasa where she completed a five-year intensive program. In addition, Dr. Kalzang has studied premedical science in Sichuan, China & human biology and organic chemistry at City College in San Francisco.

2. The Kalachakra Teaching (August 16-28) to be given by His Holiness The Dalai Lama in Indiana is only a few weeks away. If you plan to attend, we strongly encourage you to register immediately. For information about this, contact Mary Patteson (tcc@kiva.net) or visit this website:

3. ITIM will be hosting a campsite (see www.rangzen.com) to accomodate people attending the Kalachakra. We choose to do this for 2 reasons. First, we expected (and it has now been confirmed) that many Tibetans and some westerners could not afford to stay in a motel for 2 weeks. And second, we wanted to create an environment (similar to India or Tibet) that encouraged the development of a community that celebrates its' culture through prayer, cooking, talking, dancing, singing, etc. This can not occur in a motel room, and in Tibet and India, most people would camp during the Kalachakra.

We need your help with the campsite. Right now we expect 300+ people from around the world to camp including 100 Tibetans. Most of our campers will need gear, particularly tents. We have approached the National Guard, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, various university groups, Sierra Club, Camping Associations, and Sporting Goods Companies and have been told NO TENTS either for loan or at a reduced price.

We will need about 50 tents for people who cannot supply their own. Most of these tents will be used by Tibetans. This will cost approximately $2500 (U.S. dollars). ITIM is a grassroots volunteer organization that has little money. Thus, we cannot really afford to purchase these tents. We respectfully request your help with the purchase of these tents.

We estimate that a 2 person tent will cost $40, while a 4 person tent will cost around $80. This translates to $20 per person for a tent. If you are so inclined, we would greatly appreciate a $20 (U.S. dollars) contribution to cover the cost of one person. Of course, any other amount you choose to donate would be wonderful. We need your help setting up this lodging community to make it possible for people to participate in the Kalachakra, especially Tibetans. Thanks for considering this appeal.
