URGE THE UN FIFTH COMMITTEE; DUPUIS AT HIS 16TH DAY OF FASTING; PINTON,
EURO-MP, AND KADIR, DEPUTY SPEAKER OF THE BULGARIAN PARLIAMENT, HAVE JOINED
THE 303 CITIZENS ON HUNGER STRIKE. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FIFTH COMMITTEE
MEETS WITH THE RADICALS IN NEW YORK AND ASSURES THAT THE BUDGET OF THE AD
HOC TRIBUNAL FOR CRIMES IN FORMER YUGOSLAVIA WILL BE ADOPTED BY THE END OF
THE MONTH.
To date, banners from the cities of Saragoza, Valencia, Budapest, Coventry,
Osijek, Vukovar and Gernika (Guernica) will take part in the Easter March
on April 3rd in Rome together with 63 banners of Italian towns. The March,
which objectives are the Universal Moratorium on all Capital Executions and
the establishment of the Permanent Criminal Court, will start at 9 A.M.
from the Campidoglio and will end in St.Peter's Square, and is promoted by
the Mayor of Sarajevo, the Mayor of Rome, Don Luigi Di Liegro, director of
Charitas in Rome, the Association "Hands Off Cain" for the abolition of the
death penalty in the world by the year 2000 and the Radical Party. Have
also adhered to the campaign, among others, the cities of Cape Town,
Brighton, Jerusalem, Barcellona, Warsaw, Zurich, Bratislava, Nevers,
Toledo, Graz, Stokholm, Durazzo.
46 Euro-MPs have written to the members of the 5th Committee urging the
adoption of the budget of the ad hoc Tribunal.
In the meantime, in order to pursue this same objective, the nonviolent
action of dialogue by Olivier Dupuis, President of the General Council of
the Radical Party, is continuing and has reached day 16 of fasting.
The Chairman of the 5th Committee of the U.N. General Assembly, Ambassador
Hadid, met on Thursday March 24th in New York with Marino Busdachin, member
of the Secretariat of the Radical Party, in order to inform him on the
exact situation concerning the adoption of the budget of the ad hoc
Tribunal.
First of all, Ambassador Hadid thanked the Radical Party and the Committee
"There cannot be Peace without Justice" for the work done in favour of the
Tribunal and in particular the 300 hunger strikers.
"I don't intend to disappoint them, declared Hadid, I am committed
personally in favour of this cause, and, with regards to the adoption of
the budget, all obstacles will be cleared by March 31st..."
