In particular it undertakes formally to apply a unilateral moratorium on
anti-personnel land mine sales abroad, thereby implementing as of now the
UN Assembly Resolution on a moratorium for anti-personnel land mines
exports which seriously endanger civilian populations.
The Government will, furthermore, promote appropriate initiatives in the
relevant international fora to support de-mining operations in countries
where civilian populations are at risk.
The Government is aware of the impact of such commitments on Italian
companies or on companies established in Italy, namely on employment, as
the motion itself points out.
The Government will therefore implement the social "buffer" measures
envisaged by current legislation to assist those employed in this sector
and will adopt all initiatives apt to reduce such negative repercussions.
The Government thanks this Assembly for its attention to such a topical
issue and for the opportunity to make public the high profile commitments
it intends to undertake, for the success of which Italy is appealing to the
broadest possible cooperation of the Parliament and the international
community.
