REPRESENTATIVES OF DIFFERENT HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS, GATHERED ON
JANUARY 4 IN THE MEMORIAL SOCIETY'S HADQUARTERS, HAVE TAKEN DECISION ABOUT
KEEPING WATCHES TO PROTEST AGAINST WAR IN CHECHNYA

In the meeting, organized by "Memorial", have participated the
representatives of Moscow Helsinki Group, Club "Moscow Tribune", Club Of
Voters Of Academy Of Science, Soldiers Mothers' Committee, Glasnost
Foundation, Democratic Choice of Russia party, Russian Foundation of Mercy
and Health, Express-Khronika, Moscow Buddist Order "Nippo-Zan Me Kho Zi",
Helsinki Citizens' Assembly, International Non-Violence Organization and
Group For Assistance To The Reform Of Criminal Justice. The participants of
the meeting accepted a plan of common public actions for the next days. It
was also reached an agreement about preparation of a number of open appeals
to the international public opinion, international human rights
organizations and centers, governments of different states of the world. It
was adjusted the question of organizing humanitarian aid to the victims in
the warfare area, as well as the agreement about constant mutual
coordination was also reached.
On January 6 from 11.00 till 12.00 there are scheduled peace watches near
American and German embassies. Moscow "Memorial" Society formally informed
the Moscow Mayor's Office about this actions. At the same day from 9.00
till 10.00 the watch near the central entrance of the State Duma will be
held by "Memorial" and Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG), if the extra-ordinary
session of Duma will be appointed on that day.
On January 9 there are scheduled watches of protest near American, British
and French Embassies. The formal requests about watches near British and
French Embassies will be presented by Glasnost Public Foundation. It is
supposed participation of five Glasnost Foundation's members in each of the
scheduled watches. The request about watch near American embassy will be
presented by MHG.
On January 10 it is supposed to be continued keeping watch near American,
Japaniese and Italian embassies. Request about action near American Embassy
was presented by Glasnost Foundation, near Japaniese Embassy - MHG, near
Italian Embassy - "Memorial".
The exponents of "Choice of Russia" MPs Anatolij Shabad, Sergej Jushenkov
and Alla Gerber presented requests for manifestation on January 10. Who
wants to participate, are invited to 18.00 on Teatralnaja square, from
where at 18.45 the column of demonstrators will move through Lubjanskaja
and Novaja squares to Staraja square, where the march will be concluded by
a rally at 20.00.
On January 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29 the peace watches near the building of
President's Administration (complex of building of former Central Committee
of CPSU) will be held.
