Delegation of the Transnational Radical Party leaves today for Northern
Caucasus, in order to go into the situation in the warfare area in
Chechnya, in particular - in the human rights field.
Delegation is composed from two persons: Italian Antonio Stango, member of
Secretariat of the Radical Party, chairman of Italian Helsinki Group and
member of CSCE Commission of Italian Foreign Ministry; and Nikolaj Khramov,
member of General Council of Radical Party, responsible for work of RP's
Moscow office and coordinator of the campaign for recognizing the right for
conscientious objection.
The Radical delegation intends to meet with leadership of Ingush Republic,
with local human rights organizations, with refugees, and - first of all -
with Russian deputies and representatives of Russian human rights
organizations, working in the conflict area. Exponents of the Radical Party
(which was its deputies in European Parliament, as well as in Italian and
other national parliaments) would like to render their assistance to
Russian MPs and human rights activists in direct connection with Westerns
public organizations and governmental institutions, first of all in Rome
and Brussels. This is the first delegation of a Western political
organization in the area of Russian-Chechen conflict.
Antonio Stango and Nikolaj Khramov depart today at 17:00 by Aeroflot flight
to Mineralnye Vody, intending to reach tomorrow morning the city of Nazran,
center of Ingush Republic.
