X-Comment: The Transnational Radical Party List
37th CONGRESS OF THE RADICAL PARTY
Rome, February 24-26 1995
JOIN NOW THE TRANSPARTY TRANSNATIONAL RADICAL PARTY!
In a few weeks, the Radical Party will held its 37th Congress in Rome. This
issue of "Transnational" is first of all dedicated to the introduction of
the Congress.
Due to the great economical difficulties of our Party (as discussed above),
we were forced to stop the Transnational schedule of activities, which has
been quite regular since last spring.
Thanks only to an exceptional effort and the first 1995 memberships, we are
able to print and distribute this issue.

Emma Bonino, Secretary of the Radical Party, has been nominated as European
Union commissioner by the Italian government; she is charge of the
Humanitarian Aid, Consumers' Protection, and Fishing departments.
Here follows her official statement right after the nomination:
"New York, October 28, 1994 - I am grateful to the Prime Minister Silvio
Berlusconi who appointed me with the nomination as European Union
commissioner.
I will dutifully serve this new responsibility with my full commitment,
serving my country and the European institutions, devoted, as usual, to the
values of the transparty and transnational Radical Party.
To affirm these ideas and values, I find myself now in New York, where the
49th UN General Assembly has the chance to make historical decisions such
as the founding of an International criminal court for crimes against
humanity and the suspension of capital punishments. As Secretary of the
Radical Party, I will commit myself to the assertion of such ideas and
values within the European Commission. Again, I am warmly thankful to the
Prime Minister for bestowing his trust upon me."
In accordance with the Maastricht Treaties, EU Commissioners are not
allowed to keep any position in a political party, so Emma Bonino resigned
her position as Secretary of the Radical Party, passing the responsibility
of Secretary ad interim to Olivier Dupuis, President of the Party's General
Council.
