THE 1996 SATYAGRAHA
We must organize and activate ourselves right now for a big world
Satyagraha in 1996. This is a completely new project, very difficult to
organize unless we have many resources immediately available. The
International mobilization of future weeks, including demonstrations
supporting the Peace March from New Delhi to Lhasa, should also be the
right moment to receive personal involvement to help in the preparation of
the world Satyagraha next year - with the Dalai Lama, with the
non-violence.
It is therefore very important to give as soon as possible your
availability and willingness to give life and participate to the mass
fasting of 1996. And since now it is essential to gather other people's
adhesion and participation, thus being able to be ready very soon to launch
our project. With this objective in mind, we wrote the following appeal,
which should be copied and distributed anywhere, and then returned with
many names and signatures to the various Radical Party offices.
FOR A WORLD SATYAGRAHA WITH POOR AND POWERFUL PEOPLE
The Radical Party invited the Dalai Lama to organize by 1996 the first, big
"World Satyagraha" for peace and freedom of Tibet, and for democracy in
China.
A Gandhian Satyagraha, sustained by mass-media and new technologies as well
as by UN-sponsored initiatives in any country.
A large worldwide fasting (partially at outrance) of dialogue and hope,
which should include members of National Parliaments, and poor and powerful
people as well. A fasting with a strong and big goal, chosen with great
prudence, in accordance with the Chinese constitution and the principles of
the Charta of Human Rights and the UN resolutions, based on the guide-lines
already introduced by the Dalai Lama himself, thus suggesting to China a
possible path toward peace and democracy in its own history, starting
exactly from the Tibetan scenario.
To became real, such a project requires many months of hard work, including
the involvement of great religious and spiritual, political and popular
bodies around the world. And to give information and collaborate with all
non-violent, gandhian, pacifist, buddhist groups - only to do that an
incredible amount of spiritual strength, human and economic resources,
activism and knowledge are highly needed. Therefore we are here to ask you
to give your adhesion in advance to the "1996 World Satyagraha for Tibet",
by filling the enclosed coupon - so we can contact you as soon as new
details will emerge in the organization of this big non-violent initiative.
