EUROPE WILL EITHER DIE OR BE REBORN IN SARAJEVO

BOSNIA: IMMEDIATE MEMBERSHIP OF THE EUROPEAN UNION!

by Olivier Dupuis

Dear friends,

In this humble newsletter, now almost our only means of communication, we

will try to give you an update on the economic situation of the party and

on our campaigns.

First of all, however, I want to recall once again the tragic death of a

dear friend, Izet Muhamadagic, the Vice-Minister of Justice of the Republic

of Bosnia Hercegovina. As you have heard on the news, Izet died together

with the Foreign Minister and six other people when their helicopter was

shot down by the Serbo-Bosnian troops of Karadzic and Mladic.

Izet's story as a Radical was unusual and intense. In 1991, he sent off the

enrollment form, cut out of "The New Party", from Bosanski Novi. A few

months later, he was taken hostage by the Serbo-Bosnian troops, who

threatened every day to kill him. From Budapest, Brussels, and Zagreb, we

began to bombard the police authorities with telephone calls and faxes

signed by Marco Pannella and other European deputies. A few months later he

was released. Saved, according to his jailors, by "Europe".

After a period spent in Zagreb, Izet went back to Sarajevo. It was here

that he believed he could make a contribution to his country's difficult

and tragic resistance. And, with him, we had been working hard in the last

few months on the campaign for Bosnian membership of the European Union. In

April, Izet and Sandro Ottoni met the Prime Minister and other Bosnian

ministers in Sarajevo to explain and perfect our initiative, which we hoped

would be supported by the government of Bosnia Hercegovina.

We are still trying, as we write, to continue this battle even though we

are without funds and ever closer to having to close down our activities.

Izet is still with us and with the memory of the things we have done or

tried to do together during these tragic years. For this reason, together

with a group of European deputies, we have decided to gather all our forces

and ideals in Cannes on 26 June, when there will be a meeting of the heads

of government of the member countries of the European Union. We will ask

Europe to abandon its current policy of negotiation with criminals,

reminiscent of the 1930s, and to take sides with the victims of aggression,

with justice and international law, by formally inviting Bosnia to join the

European Union.

>From Lisbon to Moscow, from New York to Bucharest, from all over the world,

you can give your support to this battle for the survival of Bosnia

(without forgetting our other battles, for justice and international law,

for a free Tibet, for a new international drug policy), by joining the

transnational and transdivisional Radical Party and setting up militant

groups in your home cities.

Help us to build up the resources we need. There is no time to be lost.
