THE DEMONSTRATION IN CANNES
27 June 1995 - The demonstration took place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 26
June, a few yards from the Palais des Festivals, where the Council of
Europe was being held.
Over 600 demonstrators, mainly from Spain, Italy and France, unfurled
banners and placards in the various languages of the Union and in
Esperanto.
Those present included the Euro-deputies Marco Pannella, Bernard Kouchner,
Jose' Maria Mendiluce, Alex Langer, Gianfranco Dell'Alba, Magda Alvoet,
Monica Baldi, Le'onide van Bladel, Pierre Pradier, Conceptio Ferrer, the
Secretary of the Transnational Radical Party Olivier Dupuis, and
representatives of the pro-Bosnia committees.
At the same time, a similar demonstration was held at the Franco-Italian
border at Ventimiglia, led by the TRP Treasurer Danilo Quinto, where the
French authorities had turned back two buses with about 100 demonstrators
from Bosnia, Croatia, Albania and Italy, preventing them from reaching
Cannes.
OPEN LETTER TO THE HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT AND THE FOREIGN MINISTERS
OF THE MEMBER COUNTRIES OF THE EU AND OF THE ASSOCIATED COUNTRIES, AND TO
THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION
Rome, 20 June 1995 - The Secretary of the Transnational Radical Party,
Olivier Dupuis, sent an open letter to the political authorities of the
countries of the European Union and of the associated countries
illustrating the initiative for the adhesion of Bosnia-Hercegovina to the
Union. Inviting the authorities to support the initiative, in the name of
the principles of democracy and tolerance on which the Union itself is
founded, Olivier Dupuis states that the adhesion of Bosnia would be within
the possibilities of the EU, also from an economic point of view. The cost
of Bosnia's entry into the Union "should not exceed 500 million ECU a
year", and a considerable saving would be made as a result of the reduction
in the costs of the UN mission.
